July 9, 2000 On this date in 2000, WCW held Bash at the Beach at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. In the scheduled title match, WCW World Champion Jeff Jarrett lay down at the bell and allowed Hulk Hogan to pin him with a foot on his chest. Hogan addressed writer Vince Russo on the microphone before the pin: "Is this your idea, Russo? That's why this company is in the damn shape it's in, because of bullsh-- like this." Hogan took the belt and left the arena. Russo later returned to the ring and cut a promo on Hogan, telling the crowd it would be the last time they would ever see "that piece of sh--" in a WCW arena again, and ordered a new title match for the same night. Hogan never returned to the company and filed a defamation lawsuit that was settled out of court. Hogan and Russo gave conflicting accounts of how much was planned.
