Tony Khan spoke with Q101's Case Lowe ahead of Beach Break, where Kenny Omega can never challenge for the AEW World Championship again if he loses to MJF. Khan traced the concept back to Cody Rhodes challenging Chris Jericho at Full Gear 2019.
"In the case of Cody, it was Cody's idea to do that, and I did have some reservations about it at the time, and he felt pretty strongly about it, and that's how it came to be," Khan said. "I went along because I could see why he wanted to have it, and it would certainly build unpredictability around the event."
Khan called the match a highlight but admitted "the aftermath did create challenges." Rhodes lost, honored the stipulation for the rest of his AEW run, and later became the first TNT Champion after that title's creation gave him a new path.
