Most cosmetic exosomes are derived from stem cells grown in a lab. The liquid those cells are cultured in is called conditioned media — and it contains a mix of secreted proteins, extracellular matrix molecules, and yes, some extracellular vesicles.
Then brands attempt to purify the exosomes out of that soup, because there's a lot of other stuff in it. That purification method determines everything.
And cosmetics have no required labeling for the things therapeutic exosomes must report — like size, surface markers, RNA cargo, sterility, or presence of endotoxin.
