Thousands crowded onto the Hawthorne Bridge in downtown Portland to watch Fourth of July fireworks as the U.S. celebrated its 250th birthday. That was to say nothing of boaters who watched the Waterfront Blues Festival fireworks show Saturday from the Willamette River. Or thousands of viewers from banks on either side of the river. Or those who viewed the pyrotechnics from the Morrison Bridge.
