An Indiana State Police trooper was shot, leading to a manhunt for the gunman, which ended with a suspect found dead Friday, according to authorities. Indiana State Police said the shooting happened Friday morning near US 421 and County Road 300 N in LaPorte County. Police said the trooper was involved in a pursuit that began in Berrien County, Michigan, and entered Indiana with the vehicle in the pursuit believed to be stolen. The trooper spotted the stolen vehicle, a silver Ford F-150, on Interstate 94, exiting on US 421, state police said. The vehicle stopped at a Speedway gas station and at one point crashed into the trooper's vehicle. Shots were fired by the suspect following the crash, ISP said, and the trooper fired multiple shots back as the vehicle fled the scene. The trooper was taken to an area hospital, but was transported to South Bend Memorial and is listed in stable condition.
