Long before Fenway Park, the Red Sox, or even the invention of the telephone, this Boston restaurant was already serving customers. Union Oyster House first opened in 1826 and is widely recognized as America’s oldest continuously operating restaurant. Nearly 200 years later, it’s still serving oysters, clam chowder, lobster, and other New England classics along the Freedom Trail. Over the years, everyone from presidents and royalty to Julia Child, Meryl Streep, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Steven Spielberg have stopped in for a meal. This August, the historic restaurant will celebrate its 200th anniversary, making it one of the oldest continuously operating restaurants anywhere in the country.
