The World Cup is officially changing Massachusetts drinking laws. 👀 Governor Maura Healey has signed a new bill that allows bars and restaurants with liquor licenses to stay open an extra hour, extending last call from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. through July 31, 2026. The legislation also allows cities and towns to create public drinking districts where alcohol can be consumed outdoors, similar to programs seen in other major event destinations. State officials say the move is designed to help Massachusetts capitalize on a summer expected to bring hundreds of thousands of visitors for the FIFA World Cup, Sail Boston, and America 250 celebrations. But, not every community will automatically participate. Local governments will decide whether to opt in to the extended hours and outdoor drinking zones.
