Purchased in 1634 for just £30, Boston Common is the oldest city park in America and nearly a century and a half older than the country it resides in. Originally used for grazing cattle and military drills, it later became a staging ground for British troops before the Revolutionary War. Lanterns hung from its Great Elm by the Sons of Liberty once symbolized resistance. Now, it’s where Bostonians relax, protest, and picnic, with nearly 400 years of history underfoot.
