Andrea Schlieker reflects on Georg Baselitz’s exhibition ‘Back Again’ at White Cube Bermondsey.
Returning to themes that defined his work over more than six decades – including Elke, his wife and longtime muse, the eagle and the Hero – the exhibition brings together some of the last paintings Georg Baselitz created before his passing in April 2026.
As Andrea notes, these late works became ‘more and more crystallised in the repeat of these themes’, while Baselitz’s approach to painting grew increasingly radical, continuing to evolve until the very end.
📍 ‘Georg Baselitz: Back Again’ is on view until 30 August 2026 at White Cube Bermondsey.
