The GLP 1 era is officially mainstream.
Gallup reports that 11 percent of U.S. adults now say they are currently taking GLP 1 medications for weight loss.
That is up from 3 percent in 2024.
This is no longer a niche drug story.
It is a mass behavior shift.
Appetite is being pharmacologically rewritten.
But today’s sharper signal comes from the competition.
Kailera’s oral obesity drug met late stage goals in China, with weight loss around 11 percent.
Then came the problem:
Nausea around 70 percent.
Vomiting above 65 percent.
The market reacted fast.
Because the next phase of obesity medicine will not be judged by weight loss alone.
It will be judged by whether people can actually live with the treatment.
Tolerability.
Adherence.
Strength.
Muscle.
Bone.
Nutrition.
Long term resilience.
That is the part the hype keeps missing.
Weight loss is not automatically healthspan.
