A typical Sacramento summer consists of many heatwaves and we thought we’d share a little bit about Sacramento’s heat wave 117 years ago. On July 12, 1909, Sacramento experienced a record setting temperature of 101 degrees. Stores sold out of electric fans and ice cream parlors were overwhelmed by customers. This was the hottest day of the year in Sacramento but the extreme heat lasted several days with not much relief in the evenings. The Sacramento Union newspaper reported it was still over 80 degrees at midnight. Newspaper clipping from the Sacramento Union on July 13, 1909. #onthisday #thisdayinhistory #sachistorymuseum #sacramento
