3 years ago today, NewJeans dropped 'Super Shy.' As the pre-release single ahead of their second EP, Get Up, released by ADOR later that month. The track was written by Erika de Casier, Kristine Bogan, and producer Frankie Scoca, with de Casier drawing on her own memories of being a shy teenager, and member Danielle later credited as a co-writer on the Korean lyrics. Sonically, it blends liquid drum and bass, UK garage, and bubblegum Jersey club, built around a distinctive staccato kick pattern that critics likened to a stuttering heartbeat. Vocalist Haerin has said the song's confessional core — wanting to express feelings but holding back — felt deeply personal to her and the group.
