‘Social work always helped me. I’ve always worked to support my family, culture, land and kinship.’ After the death of his partner eight years ago, Nash raised his five daughters, all while completing his Masters in Social Work at James Cook University. 🎓 In February this year, that journey led him to a role as a social worker at Cooktown Multipurpose Health Service, joining as the first social worker through Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service’s First Nations Allied Health Graduate Pathway. It’s a pathway Nash knows well. He began his career as an allied health assistant before progressing through to the graduate role, and previously contributed to establishing an Indigenous drug and alcohol family residential rehabilitation service in Cooktown. And his daughters are following his lead.
