A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to photograph my first wedding.
It is such a blessing to have a network of people who want to see you grow (such as Mike Snyder, Shawn Fernandez, CRM Studios) and are willing to lend essential gear to see you do so. (And, of course, it’s especially a blessing to have your dad as a second photographer - Scott Burress).
While wedding photography is completely different than sports, which I consider my specialty, I found the two are much more similar than I realized.
Anticipation is key; planning is important, but so is adaptability. Being proactive but also reactive.
One similarity between the two is anticipating the defining moments before they happen. The first kiss… you know it’s coming, but you don’t know the exact second it will happen. It’s like a full-count strikeout to end an inning. You know the pitcher is likely to show a burst of emotion, so you remain focused on them, ready to capture the moment when it happens.
