Deep indignation has been caused by the case of an elderly man who, according to his own testimony, was allegedly abandoned by his family in a park in the Santa Isabel neighborhood of Palmira, Valle del Cauca. The man, who suffers from advanced cancer, was found alone in extremely vulnerable conditions by local residents. Through tears, the grandfather told the people who came to help him that he had been brought from Cali under false pretenses and that, upon arriving in Palmira, his relatives abandoned him and left him to fend for himself. His story moved the community, who immediately stepped in to help and contacted emergency services. The elderly man was transported by the Fire Department to an assisted living center, where he is receiving medical care and psychological support as he faces his delicate health condition.
