At least 12,000 students and faculty members trapped in flood-hit buildings in Guigang, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, had been evacuated by Thursday with the help of emergency powered pontoon bridges.
Torrential rains triggered by Typhoon Maysak have caused severe flooding in parts of the city since Monday.
Each pontoon bridge has a load capacity of more than 60 tons and can transport up to 500 people in a single trip. Originally designed for military operations, the bridges can also be rapidly deployed for emergency rescue and disaster relief.
