Two drones were deployed from Guangdong to flood-hit areas in Hengzhou City, Guangxi, on Monday to help restore mobile communications.
Torrential rains triggered by Typhoon Maysak led to severe flooding in south China's Guangxi, knocking out power and communications in parts of Hengzhou.
The two Wing Loong unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), equipped with onboard mobile base stations, can provide phone coverage within a radius of more than 50 kilometers, enabling stranded residents to contact their families and send emergency distress calls.
The Wing Loong is a dual-use drone platform designed for both civilian and military applications. It has been used in disaster relief, emergency communications and meteorological observation.
