🆕 Omega Centauri’s first stellar-mass black hole has been found! ⭐🕳️ 🔴 The massive globular cluster Omega Centauri has puzzled astronomers for decades. It should be filled with black holes left behind by exploding stars. But where are they? 🤔 🔴 At last, astronomers have found the first stellar-mass black hole in the cluster. They used archival data from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope and supportive observations from esawebb to measure the tiny movements of stars and locate the black hole. 🔴 The black hole, oMEGACat BH-2, has some surprising qualities, including a much lower-than-expected mass and the longest orbital period of any black hole binary ever seen!
