UPDATE FROM COLORADO: Since being deployed to Colorado late last week, our strike teams have been hard at work, moving wherever they’re needed most.
On the
#AspenAcresFire, one strike team has been constructing containment lines and supporting firing operations to help strengthen the fire’s edge. Another strike team was reassigned to the nearby Pole Canyon Fire after it ignited, providing immediate support on a new incident.
Their commitment hasn’t stopped when the shift ends. After completing a 24-hour assignment, one engine crew came across a trailer fire while running errands in town. They immediately stopped to assist the local fire department, supplied water to another crew, and helped extinguish remaining hot spots.
There was also a special reunion along the way. While traveling between assignments, our crews were stopped by the Custer County Sheriff’s Office, not for an emergency, but by a familiar face: retired CAL FIRE San Benito-Monterey Unit Assistant Chief Adrian “But...
