Did you know that Toronto held a Stampede of its own in 1926? The week-long event took place at the Exhibition grounds between September 25 and October 1. In addition to the traditional bronc riding contests and chuck wagon races, it also featured such competitions as equestrian high jumping and a "Roman race," where riders competed while standing on the backs of two galloping horses at the same time. The rodeo was held over the objections of the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. 1. "Leo Watson bucked off Mayor Foster." For the record, Leo Watson was the cowboy, and Mayor Foster was the horse, named after Toronto Mayor Thomas Foster. Larry Becker postcards, Series 330, File 267, Item 6. 2.
