Researchers scanned a scroll with X-rays, then trained AI to detect faint ink traces invisible to the human eye. They virtually unrolled it on screen, revealing 20 columns of writing across a meter of charred paper. It turned out to be a Stoic philosophy text on reason and virtue, silent for nearly 2,000 years, suddenly readable. Hundreds more scrolls remain sealed in that same library.
