Earlier this month, Sycamores’ Joe Ford testified before the California Assembly Budget Subcommittee No. 2 on Human Services. He shared the impact of the Eaton Fire on our Altadena campus—home to foster youth in our Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP)—and the trauma those youth experienced as they were urgently evacuated in the early morning hours. He also highlighted the broader effects on the children and families we serve throughout the community.
Joe reminded lawmakers that disaster recovery must include our most vulnerable youth, who already face repeated trauma and upheaval. His message was clear: “From the ashes, hope emerges—but it must be met with action.”
We’re proud of Joe’s leadership in advocating for stronger, more responsive systems of care—and grateful to Chair Dr. Corey Jackson for elevating this critical conversation.
