Mahdi Surosh arrived in Minnesota just days before the fall of Kabul in August 2021, as a Fulbright Scholar, and went on to earn a Master of Public Policy from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and communications. Unable to return to Afghanistan, he has made Minnesota his second home—a place where he continues his mission to give a voice to the vulnerable and support refugee and underserved communities with compassion and commitment. Mahdi Surosh is the project manager of the Raahat Project at the Center for Victims of Torture (CVT) in Minnesota, where he works closely with Afghan refugees to help them rebuild their lives and find a sense of belonging.
