This Friday, November 29 is #NativeAmericanHeritageDay, a day we celebrate the strength, resilience, spirit, and continuing legacy of American Indians, Alaska Natives, and all Indigenous peoples. The land we live on, known today as Minnesota, is the ancestral and current home to 11 vibrant Tribal Nations. We recognize and honor the sovereignty of these Nations, which include these seven Anishinaabe reservations and four Dakota Communities: Anishinaabe reservations: Bois Forte Band of Chippewa, Fond du Lac, Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe, Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, Red Lake Nation, and White Earth Nation. Dakota communities: Prairie Island Indian Community, Lower Sioux Indian Community, Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community and Upper Sioux Community.
