It's National Public Health Week, and the theme today is Violence Prevention. Sexual violence is a serious public health problem that impacts millions of people each year in the United States alone. By 11th grade, 16% of Minnesota students have experienced sexual violence. Rates are higher for LGBTQ+ students, BIPOC students, and students with disabilities. This month, follow MDH to learn more about sexual violence and how communities can prevent it as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month #SAAM #SAAM2023 If you or someone you know has been harmed, you can find a local sexual violence advocate at mncasa.org/find-help. Advocates are also available at the Minnesota Day One Crisis Hotline. Call 1-866-223-1111 or text 612-399-9995 for support today.
