Oral cancer is a form of head and neck cancer that can occur on the lips, cheeks, teeth, gums, tongue, and throat. Symptoms of oral cancer can include sores, red and white patches in the mouth and lips, pain and numbness of the mouth and lips, and difficulty chewing and swallowing. Here are some tips to reduce your risk of oral cancer:
- Avoid using tobacco products such as cigarettes, e-cigarettes, vapes, and chewing tobacco.
- Avoid drinking alcohol.
- Maintain a healthy diet by including whole grains, lean proteins, fruits, and vegetables into meals.
- Talk to a doctor about the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine if you have children between the ages of 11-12 years old.
- Get screened for oral cancer.
