Get a COVID-19 booster shot when you are due. If you got the Pfizer vaccine, people 12 and older should get a booster shot 5 months after their second dose. If you got the Moderna vaccine, people 18 and older should get a booster shot 5 months after their second dose. If you got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, people 18 and older should get a booster shot 2 months after their single dose. People who have conditions that weaken their immune system should talk to their health care provider about the timing of their booster dose.
Adults 18 and older and choose which COVID-19 vaccine they get for their booster, regardless of what vaccine they originally received. Pfizer or Moderna vaccines are preferred over Johnson & Johnson vaccine. 12-17 year olds who got the Pfizer vaccine should get a Pfizer booster shot.
