One of the factors that makes Eliminating Health Disparities Initiative grantees’ programs successful is that they are rooted in cultural knowledge, values, and wisdom. One grantee, @boisfortebandofchippewa, was recently highlighted in the @MesabiDailyNews for their work to pass down the traditions of canoeing and harvesting wild rice to their youth. In addition to connecting with their culture and revitalizing a centuries-old practice, these activities have the added benefits of helping youth be active in the time of COVID-19 social distancing and learn how to harvest healthy food in an area where healthy food can be hard to find.
