Good mental health and well-being happens in and through our communities. Communities can support mental wellness by building connections and a sense of belonging. With guidance from Minnesota Department of Health, one group of students at Brainerd High School is taking action to support mental health and prevent suicide. The students launched the Lighthouse Project in 2018 to improve mental well-being in their community, reduce stigma around mental health and suicide, and encourage people to seek help if they need it.
The Lighthouse Project hosts events to bring the community together to talk about mental health in a positive way. Events include family fun nights, a bubble run and, school pep rallies. Mental health experts often speak at these events. Host an event in your community to create and maintain positive relationships!
