Some service members may disqualify themselves from benefits because they don't think they fit the traditional image of a "Veteran." "I served, but I wasn't in combat." Or “I was in a supporting role as a nurse or administrative assistant.” Or "I was only in for a few years." In Minnesota, the definition is specific, but it is likely broader than you think. Generally, if you served 181 consecutive days on active duty and were discharged under honorable conditions, the State recognizes your service.
