Why cancer? Cancer is a leading cause of death in Tanzania, and a cancer diagnosis is often seen as a death sentence. Before The Foundation for Cancer Care’s involvement, Tanzania had only two public cancer care facilities to serve a population of over 60 million. Northern Tanzania did not have any designated cancer care facilities for its population of over 15 million people.
