A breast self-exam that you do for breast awareness helps you understand the normal look and feel of your breasts. If you notice a change in your breasts that seems abnormal or if you notice one breast is different when compared with the other, you can report it to your doctor.
How to Self-Exam:
Flatten the breast by stretching your arm behind your head. You can do this while lying down, sitting, or showering.
Feel the area from your armpit to your collarbone to the bottom of your ribs. This is where lymph nodes live. Sometimes these areas swell when cancer is present.
Feel using any pattern you like!
Here are some tips:
🔹Do a breast self-exam once a month to familiarize yourself with the way your breast normally look and feel.
🔹Examine yourself a week after your period ends, when your breasts are less tender and the glands are no longer swollen.
🔹Breasts can all feel different— it is important to know what your breasts feel like so that you know when something changes
