Earlier this month some KFI team members took advantage of their volunteer time off (VTO) benefit and spent the day with Can Do Canines in New Hope, MN. After a demonstration by one of the dogs training to be a Service Dog and a tour of their facility, the team worked on a project making tug ropes and snuffle mats. The tug ropes are tools used by service dogs to open doors and drawers, tug laundry baskets, retrieve a walker, and other tasks for clients. Can Do Canines have six different programs their service dogs can be trained in: hearing assist, mobility assist, seizure assist, diabetes assist, autism assist, or to be a facility dog working in hospitals, clinics, or court houses.
