I didn’t realize my French accent or saying we speak Flemish (or Dutch) would spark so much debate 😂. But beyond the comments questioning whether I even speak French or debating whether Flemish is a dialect or a language, there has been so much love. Hearing from French speakers across Canada and from multilingual families around the world has made me feel even more empowered to lean into my French, embrace my accent and celebrate what makes our family different. I’ve loved hearing where you come from, how you describe your identity and in some cases which languages you hope to pass on to your future children.
