On Veterans Day, I think back to that time I decided to trade my comfort zone for combat boots and see what the fuss was about. Joining the military wasn’t just a new chapter, it was like signing up for a world tour with free haircuts and mandatory cardio. I pretty much did nothing but play dress up, wear the rightish uniform, and occasionally (very rarely) shoot at people who didn’t appreciate my fashion sense. Now I’m at that point in life where I get to start stories with “back in my day” and pretend like everything was tougher, louder, and uphill both ways.
