On Sept. 11, 2001 the USArmy provided significant support to the nation -- Soldiers, civilians and contractors working at the Pentagon rescued and assisted coworkers. In New York City, 8,000 NationalGuard troops were activated to provide traffic control and security, removing debris and establishing shelters for the response team.
