An early morning traffic stop turned into an officer-involved shooting in Belton. Bell County deputies say a driver sped off on Adams Ave. in Temple, leading a chase down I-35. The suspect crashed into another vehicle near the I-35/I-14 merge on S. Main Street. One passenger pulled a gun and exchanged fire with deputies. Two people are now hospitalized—the armed suspect and the driver of the car that was hit. A second suspect fled the scene but may now be in custody. Texas Rangers are leading the investigation, and two deputies are on routine leave. “The Belton Police Department has closed S. Main Street and the frontage roads to I-35 and I-14 near the merge to investigate an incident that has occurred.
