Pub weddings could soon be a thing 🍻
The UK government has launched a consultation into reforming wedding laws in England and Wales, which could allow couples to legally marry in more places, including pubs, beaches, forests, castles, canal boats and even cruise ships.
The proposed changes would move the focus away from the building itself and onto the officiant conducting the ceremony, giving couples more freedom over where and how they say “I do”.
Officials say the reforms could make weddings more affordable, with the average wedding in England costing more than £20,000 and venue hire alone typically costing around £6,000.
The consultation runs until 24 September 2026, so it’s not law just yet, but it could be one of the biggest shake-ups to wedding rules in almost 200 years.
