Black Sorority Conventions Aren’t Just Reunions. They’re Economic Engines. The outfits, reunions, step videos and convention photos matter. They reflect culture, history and sisterhood. But they do not tell the full story of what happens when thousands of members of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta and Sigma Gamma Rho gather in one city. There is evidence behind the economic-engine claim. Alpha Kappa Alpha’s 2024 Boulé brought more than 20,000 members to Dallas, where initial projections placed its economic impact near $60 million, with spending directed toward local, women-owned and minority-owned businesses. Delta Sigma Theta’s 2025 National Convention drew more than 20,000 members to Washington, D.C., and was estimated to generate $50 million through hotels, transportation and tourism.
