Gangrel says his famous entrance walk was never planned. On Insight with Chris Van Vliet, he explained that the lift crushed his foot during his very first fire entrance, with the whole presentation thrown together in a weekend: "When I go to step, my foot slid under the flooring of the stage in the elevator. The lift locked up. My foot was stuck. So I'm standing there with the chalice going, I'm on fire, I'm stuck."
"That walk came because my foot was crushed. I mean, I walked to the music, but technically I was limping to the music, and my foot hurt for months. So that walk became a permanent walk."
The blood spray, he said, "was a tribute to Gene Simmons' guitar solo." The vampire scowl did not survive either: "The people would start getting into it, and they go, 'What are you doing, smiling? You're supposed to be a vampire.' They finally said, 'All right, we give, man. You just have a menacing smile.'"
