For Abby Silberman, becoming a Campus Captain wasn’t just about advocating for athlete mental health, it became a source of community during one of the biggest transitions of her life. After stepping away from NCAA athletics due to chronic health conditions, Abby found support through The Hidden Opponent and discovered that her impact didn’t end when her athletic career changed. Abby helped launch a chapter at North Central College and continued her mental health leadership with us after transferring to Penn State. When reflecting on her experience as a Campus Captain, Abby stated “mental health advocacy doesn’t have to start with a huge initiative.
