On Saturday, a coalition of anti-AI organizations hosted the largest AI protest in American history. Prompted by the rapid development of AI over the past couple of years, the anti-AI movement has been gaining traction in Berkeley and across the Bay Area. The protest saw a turnout of more than 300 people, including a marching band and a slushie truck.
As they made their way through the city, protestors stopped at OpenAI and Anthropic offices for speeches and songs. Despite apocalyptic framing from many of the organizations, the crowd remained upbeat.
This photo essay documents the first protest of more to come â the energetic warning shot of a burgeoning anti-AI movement.
