Johan Deckmann already wrote the book on it. Literally.
Every week another 'art advisor' pops up with a grid of borrowed installation shots and a bio that says 'collector, curator, tastemaker.' No inventory. No provenance files. No idea what a condition report even looks like. Just confidence, a ring light, and someone else's work in the background.
Deckmann's fictional book covers are funny because they're true — 'how to fake it' is basically the business model for half the accounts posing as experts right now. The difference between them and the people who've actually spent 25 years handling real works is the same difference between a punchline and a provenance record.
Real expertise doesn't need a highlight reel. It has receipts.
