Oregon homebuilder and remodeler Aubrey McCormick wants people to think about midcentury modern dwellings as more than something to cherish from the past. She says these well-built houses — designed with ergonomics in mind and set on large lots with natural surroundings — can support longer, healthier lives.
Her latest renovation project, a 1959 house in Southwest Portland’s Raleigh Hills, exemplifies her wellness design principles.
She reconfigured the single-level dwelling on a 0.54-acre lot to encourage movement between indoor and outdoor spaces at all stages of life.
Wide entrances, smooth natural slate porcelain tile floors and a smart layout accommodate everything from strollers to wheelchairs.
The renovated home at 5100 S.W. Laurelwood Ave. is for sale at $1,399,000.
