The weekend starting July 17 is going to bring another wave of sweltering heat. But at the same time, more Iowa beaches have exceeded the limits for E. coli and algae.
Fourteen beaches are not recommended for swimming the week of July 17, up from 11 from last week.
The DNR collects weekly samples at 41 state-owned swimming beaches to determine the public's risk of coming in contact with waterborne diseases. Testing starts a week before Memorial Day and runs through Labor Day.
