Iowa has 13% more large CAFOs — concentrated animal feeding operations — than it did six years ago, according to a new Environmental Working Group report that mapped the state's livestock facilities using aerial and satellite imagery. Altogether, Iowa had about 15,300 hog, chicken, cattle and other animal feeding operations in 2025, generating 107.6 million tons of manure last year.
