5 things nobody tells you before you cross-shop these two:
1. The Mustang GT is roughly 500 lbs lighter than a Challenger R/T making similar power. That's not a rounding error — that's the difference between a car that rotates and a car that plows. You feel every single pound in a parking garage, let alone a canyon.
2. The 5.0 Coyote is one of the most overbuilt V8s Ford has ever made. Forged crank, plasma-transferred wire arc cylinder linings — this thing was designed to take abuse. The 5.7 HEMI is solid, but the Coyote's long-term reliability track record is genuinely hard to argue with.
3. Insurance, tires, brakes — the Mustang is cheaper across the board. Smaller footprint, lighter curb weight, less rubber to replace. Challenger guys don't talk about how fast they burn through 275-width rears on a 4,400-lb car.
