As someone who grew up in Kansas City, this weekend made me incredibly proud. Kansas City didn’t try to be New York, LA, or any other major city. It simply showed the world what it is. Kansas City is a big small town with unmatched hospitality, an incredible sports culture, some pretty amazing barbecue, and people who make you feel welcome the moment you arrive. This community welcomes everyone like they’ve always belonged. That’s something you can’t manufacture. I’m sure a lot of visitors had to look up where Kansas City was on the map and, in the process, discovered there are actually two Kansas Cities with a state line running between them. But by the time they left, you could tell they understood why this place means so much to the people who call it home. People can have their opinions, but I think anyone who experienced the World Cup here left understanding exactly why Kansas City was chosen to host not only matches, but multiple national teams throughout the tournament.
