One of the year’s best meteor showers is about to return. The Perseid meteor shower becomes active around July 17 and continues through late August, with peak viewing expected on the nights of Aug. 11–13. Under dark skies, observers around Boston could see roughly 50 to 90 meteors per hour. For a better view away from city light pollution, consider spots like Blue Hills Reservation, Ward Reservation or Halibut Point State Park. No telescope is needed, but give your eyes about 20 minutes to adjust to the dark. We’ll bring this one back before the peak, but consider this your early heads-up.
