Former Arizona State University President Lattie Coor Jr., one of the leaders credited with helping shape the modern-day university, has died at 89. Coor served as ASU’s 15th president from 1990 to 2002, a period that helped position the university for major growth in research, academics and community partnerships. Current ASU President Michael Crow said ASU would not be the institution it is today without Coor’s vision and leadership. A Valley native, Coor later returned home after spending 14 years as president of the University of Vermont. His legacy remains visible across ASU, including Coor Hall on the Tempe campus and the many colleges, programs and organizations he and his wife supported. ASU said Coor passed away Thursday evening.
